Corner Boys' Song

Initially conceived as a series of poetry workshops for “corner boys” from the neighborhood, with the goal to give these young men a platform to express themselves on their own terms: they are the object of public discourse in policymaking, the justice system, and the media, but their own voices and perspectives are rarely heard. The poetry workshop format had to be adjusted after initial outreach, but the artist filmed several short videos before some of the participants had to withdraw from the project. The artist has continued the project independently, and showed portions of the videos at the Princeton Arts Council in 2018.

Inicialmente concebido como una serie de talleres de poesía para los "chicos de la esquina" del vecindario, con el objetivo de brindarles a estos jóvenes hombres una plataforma para expresarse en sus propios términos: son el objeto de debate público en la formulación de políticas, el sistema de justicia y los medios de comunicación, pero sus propias voces y perspectivas rara vez se escuchan. El formato del taller de poesía tuvo que ajustarse después del alcance inicial, pero el artista filmó varios videos cortos antes de que algunos de los participantes tuvieran que retirarse del proyecto. El artista ha continuado el proyecto de manera independiente y mostró partes de los videos en el Consejo de las Artes de Princeton (Princeton Arts Council) en 2018.
