Candidates Program

The Cavaliers men's drill team was founded in 1957, and is one of the remaining continuously-running cultural groups central to the mid-century African American community around Spring Street. The Cavaliers received support for their incoming class of six of six youth candidates from the THDC neighborhood, including uniforms and weekly training. Candidates (seen in the center of the photo in black-and-white uniforms) receive mentorship and life skills support as well as training to be part of the drill team. Photo: Karen Hilton.

El equipo de marcha masculino "The Cavaliers" fue fundado en 1957 y es uno de los grupos culturales continuamente activos que han sido fundamentales en la comunidad afroamericana de mediados del siglo XX alrededor de Calle Spring. Los Cavaliers recibieron apoyo para su nueva clase de seis candidatos jóvenes del vecindario THDC, incluyendo uniformes y entrenamiento semanal.
