#IAmTrenton campaign

Trenton, NJ – Along with opening its annual citywide grant round, I Am Trenton Community Foundation (IAT) launches its 2017 “#I Am Trenton!” campaign on June 5th. Billboards in and around Trenton will feature 17 of the many people that strive to better Trenton every day, and loudly affirm their pride to be a part of the capital city.

“These billboards shout out that Trenton is a place of energy, talent, creativity, and solutions,” says Kelly Ingram, Board President. “As a small community foundation, we know Trenton has challenges — but we also know the resourcefulness and accomplishments of our fellow Trentonians who make the impossible real every day. We’re very proud to stand with them and say ‘Yes, we ARE Trenton.’”

Everyone is invited to join in the campaign by posting photos of themselves on social media doing something to “grow the good” in Trenton with the hashtag #IAmTrenton, or by emailing info@iamtrenton.org with stories and pictures. The changemakers featured on the billboards will be celebrated at an open public event on June 10, 7:30 pm, at the Candlelight (24 Passaic Street), to which all are welcome, and have their stories featured on I Am Trenton’s website, www.iamtrenton.org.

The project is made possible by the generous support of Janssen and Investors Bank.

This year, I Am Trenton’s annual citywide grant round opens on June 5th, with an application deadline of July 10th. Anyone with a project that will have an impact on the ground in Trenton is encouraged to apply. Past grantees have taught kids robotics, brought yoga to public housing complexes, made films, taught dancing, broken down the stigma of mental health, helped young people go to college, taught their neighbors about flooding, installed bicycle pumps and book sharing stations, and incubated teenage entrepreneurs. Instructions and the new online application are available here.

“We’re incredibly honored to be able to support so many great initiatives,” says Iana Dikidjieva, Treasurer. “Trentonians don’t wait for help – they roll up their sleeves and get things done.”

I Am Trenton Community Foundation was established in 2007 by a group of individuals committed to making Trenton even better through community engagement, building pride in our city, and community-focused giving. Through a competitive, inclusive, grantmaking process, I Am Trenton puts resources in the hands of changemakers on the ground. Since its founding, the community foundation has raised and granted over $50,000 to 50+ grassroots initiatives. It has also grown over the past two years to administer more than $60,000 in additional neighborhood-specific grants for other nonprofit partners who recognize its impact in the Trenton Historic Development Collaborative neighborhood in the West Ward and the East Trenton neighborhood in the North Ward.
